January 13, 2006: Gail Simone on Livewire's Comics Debut

The Pulse grabbed an interview with Gail Simone to ask her about the up-coming comic book debut of Livewire, a character first introduced in "Superman: The Animated Series". Here's an excerpt from the article...

Q: Out of all the animated villains you could have introduced into Superman's Action Comics world, why did you want to use Livewire?

Gail: Truthfully, Superman's got more than his share of evil geniuses and lumbering hulks to scrap with. I like the idea of a little terror who barely stands five feet tall. Plus, she's wonderfully charismatic in the cartoon, and I thought it'd be a great treat for both the animated and comics fans.

Q: For those who may have missed her cartoon incarnation, just who is Livewire? What are her powers?

Gail: She's a sparkplug. Think of the energy involved in powering a city...that's just catnip to Livewire. She's the youngest shock jock in Metropolis, who's been using Superman-bashing to boost her ratings.

Q: Lighting and electrical powers don't seem to be something that could be a thorn in the side of a powerful hero like Superman. What makes her a threat to him?

Gail: It's a matter of scale, I think. Our Livewire's pretty badass on the power meter. Also, her power has the potential for massive collateral damage, whether by choice or by accident.
