August 16, 2005: Ian Roberts Talks About Working on “Superman Returns”

The Daily Telegraph's "Sydney Confidential" section published this article about actor Ian Roberts...

SYDNEY'S very own man of steel, Ian Roberts, will hit Hollywood off the back of his role in the blockbuster Superman Returns.

The former NRL player turned movie star has spent the past eight weeks playing a henchman to Kevin Spacey's Lex Luthor in the biggest role assigned to an Aussie in the flick.

Roberts will set off for the shining lights of Tinseltown to jump on board the publicity train before the Bryan Singer-directed film's release in 2006.

Interest in the one-time NSW Origin champion is gaining momentum in the US, with New York magazine doing a feature.

"I've got more of a chance of getting work over there and that's all I want to do. I don't care about being famous," Roberts told Confidential yesterday.

"Because of my build I get cast in a lot of henchman-style roles, and I'm happy for people to see me in that dimension if it means I get work."

The 195.6cm actor revealed he has "often woken up pinching myself" since working on the superhero flick.

"It doesn't get much better. Sometimes on set I get so excited, I reckon they all think I've got a couple of roos loose in the top paddock," he said.
