May 8, 2003: Marc McClure Talks Jimmy Olsen

The Pulse website caught up with Marc McClure about his acting career, and spoke to him at length about his role as Jimmy Olsen in the four Superman movies with Christopher Reeve and in Supergirl with Helen Slater. Here's an excerpt from the interview...

Q: Some people think SUPERMAN II is one of the great superhero movie, but it had a very troubled shoot, according to rumor. What can you say about the two different versions shot by directors Richard Donner and Richard Lester? MCCLURE: Donner shot both movies...Lester came in and reshot about, maybe, 5 scenes, maybe more. Donner is, was and always will be the BEST ... Lester had 3 cameras set up, we came to the set, he told us where to stand, rolled camera, got what he wanted, which was pretty much focused celluloid and that was it. I barely remember the guy even though he directed SUPERMAN III. My impression is Lester didn't want to be there. He was there to collect monies from the Salkinds for his work on THE 3 MUSKETEERS. I'm not sure about his homework on SUPERMAN. I enjoyed HELP and HARD DAYS NIGHT but I only refer to Lester about what I know and what I felt.
