January 29, 2003: “Superman vs Batman” Script Reviewed

Corona's Coming Attractions' writer Darwin Mayflower has reviewed the screenplay of the defunct "Superman vs Batman" film. Here's an excerpt from his review...

In BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN Bruce Wayne has hung up the Batsuit five years ago. Clark Kent is the best man at his wedding to the beautiful and lovely Elizabeth. And while Gotham's richest man is at the happiest moment in his life, Clark Kent, a.k.a. Superman, isn't doing so well. Lois, his long-suffering girlfriend, has finally given him the boot.

Bruce stopped fighting crime when Dick, his "ward" (this would be Robin), was murdered. Yet another loss of someone close to him -- alongside his parents and the trusted Alfred -- awoke such a rage in Batman that he began to take pleasure in beating criminals and came close to killing them. Rather than be consumed by his darkness, Batman left the life behind.

It would all seem to be working out. But, of course, on his honeymoon poor Elizabeth is slain by a poisoned dart courtesy of the Joker, who's supposed to be dead.

The death of the love of his life sends Bruce back to the Batcave and he charges out into the night. He is no longer working for the Good of the People; Bruce is seeking revenge and he is violent. Gladly taking the lawbreakers apart to find out who is behind this.

Superman tries to talk sense into him. Telling him that if he seeks revenge he is no better than what they fight.
