Man of Steel #1

September 22, 2002: Man of Steel Cancelled!

DC Comics announced on Friday that Superman: The Man of Steel #134 will be the final issue of the title.

Written by Mark Schultz, pencilled by Brandon Badeaux with inks by Mark Morales, the final Man of Steel comic book will arrive in stores on January 2nd, 2003.

Here's how DC Comics describes the issue...

"In this all-out action story, the Superman family - including Supergirl, Superboy, Krypto and the Eradicator - travels to Apokolips on a rescue mission to free John Henry Irons, trapped by Darkseid in a deadly new armor. Can Superman defeat Darkseid in one-on-one combat, where the winner takes all? And what will happen if Desaad adds the intelligent Doomsday Rex to the mix?"

"In the spirit of auld lang syne, we're ringing in the new year with this special, extra-sized farewell issue of Man of Steel from Mark," said senior editor Eddie Berganza. "Mark's done some terrific, innovative work on his run of Man of Steel, and the whole team's going to miss him.

"The other Superman writers call him 'Dr. Science,' He's great at coming up with scientific explanations for the technical points of stories, and at pointing out - and even better, fixing - plot holes."

This storyline will lead directly into the Superman/Darkseid: Apokolips Now saga.

DC also announced that Superman: The 10-Cent Adventure will be moved back one week to hit stores on January 8th. This is followed on January 15th by Action Comics #799 and on January 23rd by Adventures of Superman #612.
