Superman 10 Cent Adventure

September 19, 2002: Superman 10 Cent Adventure

The guys at Newsarama caught up with DC Comics to discuss the announcement by DC that they would be releasing a "Superman 10 Cent Adventure" at the beginning of 2003, and also to discuss the up-coming year for the Man of Steel. Here's an excerpt from the lengthy article...

DC Comics announced Tuesday a follow-up to what they're calling the "the phenomenal success" of Batman: The 10-Cent Adventure. On January 1st 2003 they'll publish Superman: The 10-Cent Adventure, an all-new, 32-page full color comic that will retail for a cover price of 10 cents and also serve as the debut of the new Superman creative team of writer Steven T. Seagle, penciler Scott McDaniel and inker Andy Owens.

Seagle (whom Newsarama caught up with to discuss his plans), McDaniel and Owens' regular run on Superman will begin with issue #190 as scheduled, but pushed back one month to February to accommodate the 10 Cent issue.

"Superman: The 10-Cent Adventure presents an excellent introductory issue to the adventures of one of the world's most widely recognized characters, along with a rich cast of supporting characters and hints of future storylines that will run through the Superman books in the coming year," DC stated.

"The response we got from retailers and readers on Batman: The 10-Cent Adventure was truly phenomenal, and its momentum continued across the entire Batman line through 2002," added Bob Wayne, DC's Vice President - Sales & Marketing. "Now, DC is reaching out to anyone who's ever enjoyed Superman's movies, TV series or comic book adventures, as well as anyone who buys comics on a regular basis."

According to the publisher, the story, "Truth," introduces a "surprising, powerful new foe called Amok, along with the mysterious Futuresmiths, the shadowy power behind Amok's attacks on the Man of Steel."

"Steve, Scott and Andy really explode out of the starting gate with this issue," said Senior Editor Eddie Berganza. "Not only is this an fast-paced, exciting issue, it's also a great jumping on point for new readers - and wait 'til you see page 22!"
