Tom Derenick's Superman

September 15, 2002: Tom Derenick Draws Superman

Cinescape caught up with Tom Derenick (who worked on an up-coming "Wolverine/Captain America" series) and asked him about the issues of Superman he's about to work on. Here's an excerpt from the interview...

Tom Derenick is drawing upcoming Superman titles at DC Comics, the artist says. "I can't say what issues yet but I have a SUPERMAN issue coming up pretty soon with Chuck Austen and a MAN OF STEEL issue with Geoff Johns," Derenick says. "I'm working with two of the best guys in the business on the best known comic-book character in history and I'm as excited as hell.

When I got the scripts I was floored. Chuck's was very action oriented and very moving all at the same time and Geoff's is just downright bizarre and funky cool. In both books Superman does several things I've never seen him do before. It's very surprising and a bit jarring but very interesting. I couldn't ask for better guys to work with on these books."
