Day of Doom

July 6, 2002: Superman's “Day of Doom”

Newsarama have published an article about the up-coming November 2002 release of a four-issue mini-series called "Superman: Day of Doom" written by Dan Jurgens. Here's an excerpt from the article...

In November it'll be a decade since DC Comics launched what's arguably the biggest event the comic book world has ever seen, The Death of Superman storyline. And to celebrate the anniversary, this November the publisher will revisit the event in a limited series by the writer/artist at ground zero of the original storyline. Superman: Day Of Doom is four-issue, weekly-shipping mini-series written and penciled by Dan Jurgens and inked by Bill Sienkiewicz.

"We've decided to do a limited series that looks back at those halcyon days," explained Jurgens. "Superman: Day of Doom will touch somewhat on the particulars of Superman's death, but more importantly, cover aspects of the story we didn't get to the first time around. After all, it wasn't just Superman who died, but thousands of Metropolis citizens as well when Doomsday stormed through the city. Doomsday was seen as a force of nature, and any such force leaves a great deal of collateral damage in its wake.

"We'll also explore the ramifications of Superman's death on Metropolis citizens because it surely had to make quite an impact on how they viewed him. How do you react when someone you grieved for returns to life?"
