May 28, 2002: New Superman Comics Creative Team

Newsarama report that DC Comics have officially announced the new creative team who will take over the "Superman" title after Jeph Loeb, Ed McGuinness and Cam Smith move over to the new "Superman and Batman" title. Here's an excerpt from their report...

When in the course of a few days it was announced that Jim Lee would be taking over the penciling chores of Batman this fall, and that Ed McGuinness was leaving Superman this summer to launch Superman & Batman early next year (both with writer Jeph Loeb attached), almost immediately DC message board regulars suggested current Batman artist Scott McDaniel would make a perfect choice for next regular Superman penciler...

Guess where we're going with this..?

DC Comics confirmed Tuesday that McDaniel indeed will be the new regular Superman artist beginning next January with issue #190, and that he'll be joined by new regular writer Steve (The Crusades) Seagle.

"To start off, they're very talented individuals," responded Superman editor Eddie Berganza, asked why he made the choices he did. "It's Superman, so you gotta go for the best. I've like what Steve has done at DC and really liked his X-Men work. I wanted to hire him originally, but I got him mixed up with Joe Kelly who was also doing X-work. D'oh!

"...Although, that's turned out real well.

"When I saw McDaniel's take on Superman in an issue of Nightwing, I made copies and told the artists I was working with then to do the sorta thing that Scott was doing with the character." Read the complete report at the Newsarama website.
