March 24, 2002: Berganza Talks Smallville Comic Stories

Newsarama reporter Mike Sangiacomo caught up with Superman comics editor Eddie Berganza to talk about how the Superman comic books will take a look back in time at the adventures of Superman when he was a boy. Here's an excerpt from the article...

Superman comics editor Eddie Berganza said the success of "Smallville" got DC thinking about new ways to look at the early days of the Man of Steel.

"In the Byrne reboot it was established that Superman did not get his powers until he was near adulthood," said Berganza. "We're toying with that concept and saying that he may have gotten all his powers by then, but that his powers had been manifesting themselves in varying degrees since he was about a junior in high school."

The first untold story of a youthful Superman will appear in Action Comics #791 on sale in May. Berganza said it's a story about Clark trying to get a young girl to go with him to a school dance. It looks like it could have been a script from "Smallville".
