February 26, 2002: Wagner Talks DC Project

Newsarama reports that Matt Wagner (cover artist on Green Arrow comics) announced at MegaCon this week that he would be creating a 3-issue prestige format mini-series chronicling Wonder Woman's first meeting (in current continuity) with both Batman and Superman. Wagner will both write and draw the miniseries, the title of which is yet to be decided.

Here are some quotes from Matt Wagner about this up-coming project...

"The main high concept is that I've been wanting to do a longish project with DC for some time now," Wagner said. "If you look at my publishing resume, a nice phatty book done with some the best established characters is the only thing missing. I mean, the last book of mine that DC keeps in print is Faces [Wagner's Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight arc] and that's only half the length of this project. And I've always gravitated towards stories and narratives that deal with defining moments."

"Part of my goal here is to stress the unique connection between these three and, hopefully, to firmly establish this connection in regards to the fact that these are not only DC flagship characters but also three of the most famous fictional personas ever created," Wagner said. "I'm surprised and amazed that there isn't a continuing series and/or title that stars these three, not the JLA, on a regular basis. Consider the triangular aspects of their relationship with each other; two of them are men and one is not, two of them are superhuman and one is not, two of them are earthlings and one is not, two of them are orphans and one is not, two of them are aristocrats and one is not... well, the list goes on and on. So, as you can see, there's a lot of story potential here."
