Smallville TV Guide covers

January 11, 2002: Alex Ross Interview

Counting Down caught up with comic book artist and painter, Alex Ross and conducted a lengthy interview about his work on the poster for this year's Oscars, his work on the "Justice Leagues Adventures" comic book, the "Smallville" TV Guide covers and much more. Here's an excerpt from the multi-page interview:

Q: As someone who does a lot of their work based on the character of Clark Kent/Superman, what do you think of the depiction of him on "Smallville"?

A: I think it's actually really good. I was like anybody else as a hardcore fan, you're thinking, why do they have to get another pretty guy that girls are gonna fall in love with? And, once you see it, you begin forget that, though girls certainly aren't forgetting that when they're watching the show. I see how effective it is, and I see that they haven't lost the heart of the character. And despite whatever revisions that they've made, whether it be the fact that it's in modern day, or that it's with some different changed members. I mean, Lana Lang doesn't have to be a redhead. That context is pointless. And I think that they've taken great respect in the way they've approached the material. And by this show being on air, it's probably gonna do more to raise the elevation of this particular icon to a new generation.
