This week sees showings of “Superman” and “Superman II” on HD Net-Movies, “Superman Returns” on AMC, the return of new episodes of “Smallville”, and a repeat of “Superman: The Animated Series”. But none of that is important.
One of the world’s most impoverished countries suffered a tragedy this week that most of us in America cannot in our wildest imaginations fathom. Imagine a country with no government infrastructure, no army, and no social services of any kind. Imagine a country with the worst health care in the world. Imagine a country where 200,000 men, women, and children suffer from HIV and Tuberculosis and barely any of them receive consistent treatment. You don’t need to imagine it. That country was Haiti BEFORE the Earthquake.
Now imagine what happens to this country when an Old Testament style disaster rips through it. Or just turn on CNN or the telethon and you won’t have to imagine it.

Paramount - which has been touting a return to acquiring and funding low-budget films - made big news on the opening day of Sundance 2010 when it announced the acquisition of Davis Guggenheim's Documentary Competition title WAITING FOR SUPERMAN, an indictment of America's public school system.
The film is Superman related in title only, but we thought it worth mentioning.

January 20, 2010: Great Caesar's Ghost! Perry Returns to "Smallville"
EW's Michael Ausiello claims that Michael McKean is also coming back to "Smallville" to reprise his role of Perry White.
"We're thrilled to have Michael back on the show," says Peterson, "and to be able to link it with the anticipated return of Martha Kent is just a phenomenal way to gear up to the end of the season."
Peterson also reveals that the iconic character's latest trip through Smallville will bring him "closer to his destiny" than ever before, adding, "We finally get to see the legendary introduction between Perry White and the intrepid Lois Lane."
O'Toole and McKean (who, as you know, are married in real life) will appear in this season's penultimate episode (No. 21).
January 20, 2010: Has "Smallville" Season 10 Been Confirmed?
According to CinemaSpy.com, "Smallville" has already been picked up for a 10th season behind-the-scenes, with an announcement likely to be made before the end of the month.
Fans of The CW series Smallville take note: industry sources inform CinemaSpy that the show has been renewed for a tenth season, and that the official announcement is probable before the end of January - possibly to be made on the Vancouver sets - when Peter Roth, President of Warner Bros. Television will visit the Warner-produced shows Smallville, Supernatural...and Fringe.
It's only a rumor at this point in time, so don't get all worked up just yet.
January 20, 2010: Martha Kent Returning to "Smallville"
EW's "Ausiello Files" has discovered that Annette O'Toole will be returning to the role of Martha Kent on "Smallville" later this season.
Producers are still working out the exact timing of Martha's reappearance, but a Smallville insider tells me it'll most likely fall during May sweeps. That same source hints that the mother-son reunion will be rocked by an "unexpected surprise" or two.
O'Toole last appeared in season 6 when Martha moved to Washington to become a U.S. senator.
It's unknown at this point in time whether Martha will be returning for just one episode or more. Stay tuned for more details as they come to hand.
