May 1, 2013: SFX Magazine #235 Celebrates "Man of Steel"Print

SFX #235 SFX #235 Issue #235 of SFX Magazine not only features Superman on the cover, but there's also an eight page article on "Man of Steel".

SFX speak to director Zack Snyder about the making of "Man of Steel", and how he feels about launching a new Superman movie amongst all the other Superhero movies coming this year.

"It's Superman! If you get that right, that's the question you'll be asking everyone else. That should be the question you are asking Iron Man and Thor. How is it you can feel you can be making a superhero movie in a world where Superman and Batman exist?"

"They truely are pure archetypes. They are literally Biblical," Snyder continued. "If you get the DC characters right they can be important, they can be about us. It's not just a romp. That's the fun, for me, of working on this movie. We got that it was important. We weren't apologising for Superman, which I feel has happened in the past. It's Superman, for God's sake. He's a thing to be celebrated."

PLUS! An interview with Superman himself, Henry Cavill!

SFX #235

How did you feel the first time you walked on set wearing that costume?

It felt pretty incredible, actually. I'm not going to lie. You put it on and you think okay, this is day one of work - day one of being Superman, and you've got a whole crew here who are invested in making a Superman movie. I was all wrapped up in this very sticky waterproof black cape thing, so no paparazzi could get shots or anything like that. And it was roasting hot, it was over 100 degrees in Chicago. And it's that moment of going, "This is me, unveiling myself as Superman to the crew." And there was a slight aspect of nerves, but it was more about excitement. People weren't waiting to judge - everyone is sitting there rubbing their hands together with glee, going, "We finally get to see what we're creating here!" It was an incredible feeling, wearing the suit, after all the work I'd done and everyone else had done in putting the suit together. It just felt like the right moment. It felt bang on. Really exciting.

The magazine also celebrates the charater's 75th anniversary with an article on the 75 Secrets of Superman.

To mark the 75th anniversary of Kal-El we reveal 75 Super-secrets going all the way back to his first appearance and the story behind the iconic "S" crest.

This issue of SFX Magazine is on sale as of today. Visit SFX.co.uk for more details.

May 1, 2013: Henry Cavill Vanity Fair InterviewPrint

Man of Steel Henry Cavill spoke to Vanity Fair about playing Superman in "Man of Steel". He discusses the costume, the cast and the pressure of playing such an iconic figure.

The interview seems to have been conducted some time ago (as the interviewer hadn't seen any images of the Superman costume. Strangely she also seems unaware of Superman's worldwide appeal).

Watch the video interview at the Vanity Fair website.

May 1, 2013: More Praise for "Man of Steel" From Michael ShannonPrint

General Zod In New York to promote his new film "The Iceman", Michael Shannon told the Sun Times how he feels about "Man of Steel", what it was like playing General Zod, and draws a comparison between his version and that played by Terence Stamp.

    Q. Tell us more about General Zod. Do you wear the funky leather outfit?

    A. I think the word is "negligee" when it comes to my outfit. It's blousy. Just kidding. It's actually pretty tight. It's a real turn-on. Everyone will want to go back home and buy one. ... The truth is [the movie's] great. I saw it last week and it blew my mind. It was a screening just for me, and I sat there tickling myself with glee.

    Q. Is your Zod different from what Terrence Stamp did with his Zod in "Superman II"?

    A. I love what Terrence did. He was the malevolent source of rage. Our director Zack [Snyder] asked me to make Zod less like a villain and more like a general. He's trying to protect the place where he rules. There are a lot of generals on Earth who are responsible for the killing of a great number of people. They're trying to preserve something. So, he's not bloodthirsty, raging Zod.
