November 11, 2009: Chloe, Oliver and Martian Manhunter "Smallville" News

Martian Manhunter "The Big Tease" at Fancast.com has a few "Smallville" related tidbits...

Nice interview with 'Smallville's' Justin Hartley! But man, no Chlollie? I was hoping for that. - LJ

To be fair, Justin didn't completely rule out an Ollie-Chloe romance; he simply said nothing was on the books yet. In full, he told me he finds it "much more interesting for Oliver to have a relationship with a female that's platonic; that doesn't happen to him. Or, I'd like to see him stumble on [new romance] and not know how to handle that." As for what if anything the writers decide to do with "Chlollie," he said, "It will be good. I have total faith in them."

The 'Smallville' executive producers have confirmed that Martian Manhunter (Phil Morris) is returning this season. When, and for how many episodes? - Graham

Those who are J'onzzing for the big guy's return will want to make extra sure that they catch the Justice Society-centric two-parter airing in January. Martian Manhunter will play a role in "Society," but really make his presence known in the "Legend" half.

You can read the complete Big Tease column at Fancast.com.

It's about damn time! This is the guy I've been dying to see become a regular.

Or at least a regular part of the Justice League!

I agree. First time I saw him appear I jumped in my seat and screamed with joy! (I really did) M.M. is an awesome addition to the cast and I too would like to see him become a regular.

Here's hoping they actually give MM something important to do this time around.
#4 | KentButabi on November 11, 2009 8:26am EST
really make his presence known

Could this mean a very green MM?

We can hope.

I could care less about a relationship with Chloe and Ollie. In fact, I figured she'll get together with Tess' hacker slacker guy.

But I'm looking forward to Jon Jones, but can't someone ask the question as to when he'll get his powers back?

I was really excited when they said Green Arrow was going to be a regular back in Season 8. I was a fan of Justin's work as GA back in Season's 6 & 7, however they ruined his character for me back last year. Also, his appearance took way too much away from Clark, and still does.

I'm afraid this would be a problem with J'onn J'onzz as well. But at least he has direct ties to Jor-El and Krypton's past, so they could do several flash back episodes to fill us in on more of the history. Just a thought if he were to ever become a regular. A Season 10 (final year) would be a great time to do it. Wrap everything in a nice little bow, help Clark with his identity problems, and send it off right!

Amanda Walller, the return of Martian Manhunter, Geoff Johns, the JSA. Smallville has been mediocre at best (and mostly atrocious) for a long time now. But nonetheless, I can't help it, I'm getting really excited for these episodes.

By the way, all of the name splices (Chlois,Chlark.. etc.) are stupid, but for some reason "Chlollie" just strikes me as extra creepy. It sounds like it should be the name of a sexual practice that would be illegal in most southern states or something.

Just wondering if they'll start having Ollie showing intrest in Dinah/Black Canary.
#11 | bwhite33 on November 11, 2009 3:37pm EST
I thought Morris was a perfect casting for MM (my 2nd favorite DC character)

Not being the greatest historian of Superman or MM, it just in the Smallville mythos that MM has ties to Jorel and Krypton right?

Agreed, GA really needs to go back to Star City snd stay there.

I could care less about a relationship with Chloe and Ollie
.

Agreed and I am really stating to dislike Chloe. They should have killed her off last year instead of Jimmy. She really has no purpose anymore.

Yeah, that's pretty much an invention of Smallville. In the comics, J'onn J'onnz was brought to earth by a malfunctioning experiment with communication/teleportation technology by Doctor Saul Erdel (same Dr. Erdel whose book Lex and Clark have been toting around in the new Superman: Secret Origin series). He had no connection with Jor-El

However, in at least one version of MM's early years, he recognized a young Clark Kent as a fellow alien with burgeoning powers, and spent some time "undercover" as a farm hand on the Kent farm, in order to watch over and help guide him . (incidentally, while the "John Jones" secret ID in comics is Caucasian, J'onn's farmhand secret ID in the comics was African American, like John Jones on Smallville) So it's not completely out of left field for a young Clark to be involved with Martian Manhunter. If I remember correctly that was in the (vastly under-appreciated) Ostrander/Mandrake ongoing Martian Manhunter title from the late 90s.

They need to give him his powers back! So hopefully the A.I. Jor-El will be grateful that he helped Clark get his powers & return the favor.
#15 | SW on November 11, 2009 7:24pm EST
sooo glad MM is coming back - i've been hoping!
#16 | Kel Varnson on November 11, 2009 7:27pm EST
Phil Morris is a terrific actor! He makes a great Martian Manhunter and the Smallville writers really know how to utllize him as well. Looking forward to having him back on.Grin

With them both going through many losses, I guess they could team up more often... Nothing more though.
