July 18, 2016: “Batman v Superman” Epic Fight Scene Explained

An excerpt from the Bonus Material included in the Blu-ray/DVD release of “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” has been posted online, with stars Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill, and director Zack Snyder revealling how the superheroes’ epic showdown was made.

I’m less interested in an explanation of “How” it was made. I would love a explanation for “Why” it was made….

No offense, but I was hoping to see more than the 3 iconic costumes on the big screen for the first time. It would have been nice to see the actual characters, but alas, that shipped has sailed, never to be seen again.

I’ll just say this: If Batman and Superman had to fight for whatever reason, I just wish they held the camera steady, move the camera further back so we can see what is going on and record each action for longer than 1.5 seconds. Oh, and lighten up the set more. It was too dark to make out what was actually happening.

Overall, I thought the fight scenes were very hard to watch and enjoy.

I found some of the angles in the fight scene similar to old pre-Bruce Lee Hong Kong kung fu movies (say that three times fast…). A lot of the actors in those movies couldn’t actually fight (gasp!) and the choreography was rudimentary. To compensate, the directors would shoot many of the fight scenes up close. I wouldn’t be surprised to find out that Snyder is a big fan of these old films. To compensate for lack of decent choreography in Watchmen, Snyder used slow motion to nauseating effect. People still don’t understand why they fought each other, was simple to me and can be explained in one word…..Manipulation. I get that they didnt need to fight but that would be the way in a completely different story, but it was epic and I for one am glad I got to see it happen.
