Superman #673 Here are Kurt Busiek's answers to questions fans put to him about "Superman #673" and other relevant topics:

Kurt's Answers

Van Banoovong (vanbanoovong@hotmail.com) asks:
Since the Insect Queen is Lana's clone, how much of Lana's memories does she have? Will this be the last time that Chris Kent suffers his condition in the future?

Kurt: She doesn't have any of Lana's memories, Van, though she does seem to have some of Lana's emotions -- specifically, she feels an attraction to Superman that mirrors Lana's. As for Chris, after my next two issues, it'll be up to Geoff and James to chart his future. I can tell you he won't be exploding again in the next two issues, and I would assume Clark and Lois won't put that watch back on him, which would solve the problem. But as to what else might happen with Chris, your guess is as good as mine.

Larry Margolis (margolis_l@bellsouth.net) asks:
No questions really - just comments. First, I really liked the latest issue. Just fun stuff and there's nothing wrong with that. But more - thanks for your run on Superman (and, at times, Action) - at the risk of sounding sycophantic, I enjoyed the vast majority of your stories (except that Wonder Woman one - sorry) and I'm only sorry that we won't see your other ideas bear fruit - at least not for a little while. Here's one reader looking forward to "Trinity" for sure - I can't wait for the trivia to pop in, a la Power Company (if you can have room for an appendix like PC had, well, then, you'll really be cooking with gas). Anyway, as I no longer frequent the DC boards, this is my chance to say thanks for what has come and for what is coming (by the way, will you still answer question here about "Trinity" or will the QfK end with your run on "Superman"?)

Kurt: Thanks for the very kind words, sir. I doubt there'll be a "sources" list in Trinity like there was in Power Company, for the simple reason that we did that in the letter column, and DC doesn't have lettercols anymore, the rat-bastids.

As for this column, I think we'll be wrapping it up after #675. It's been fun to do, but it seems to have run its course. If people do have questions or comments as the series rolls out, though, I'm not hard to find online.

lurker (Email address withheld by request) asks:
I'm curious as to the fate of the Krypto story which never saw print during your tenure. To outsiders, soliciting the story and then taking it off the docket appeared very strange, especially as Krypto has had very little presence in the books since "Up, Up and Away". Is it possible for you to share the backstory as to what occurred at the Superman editorial offices? Or, possibly, what might have appeared in the story?

Kurt: I can't really share the backstory, Lurker, because it involves stuff DC simply doesn't want to announce at present. Sorry about that. But both times it was solicited, we were under the impression the book could be published... and then at the last minute they changed their minds, which was twenty kinds of frustrating. I'm proud of the story, and it's a lovely art job by Rick Leonardi, and I hope it gets printed eventually.

As for what happens in the story, well, the people up at DC tell me that they do expect the situation to change in time, and that they'd like to print the story when that happens. So with that in mind, I'd rather keep the content of the story to myself and hope you get a chance to read it as it was intended, somewhere down the line.

I'm no help at all, am I?

Jeffrey Swolley (the_counter_gentleman@yahoo.com) asks:
Kurt, sad to hear you're leaving the book, but what will happen to the massive Action/Superman crossover that you and Geoff had been talking about, will it still happen in the books?

Kurt: That's all in Geoff's hands now, Jeffrey. I know he intends to go forward with the story, but I don't know whether he'll do it as a crossover with James, or whether he'll do it all in Action Comics. But it's big, important, fun stuff, so whatever form it takes, it'll be worth reading.

Thanks Kurt. Congratulations on the "Trinity" gig. Sounds like it'll be a lot of fun.

Kurt: Thanks -- I can say up front that the artwork's looking great. Whether Fabian and I are delivering on the story front is something readers'll have to decide for themselves, once the story hits, but we'll be doing things I'm pretty sure no one will see coming.

And in the meantime, I have two more months of Superman -- with Renato Guedes on the art -- to fill most of the gap between here and there...
