In the latest Superman Homepage Member Poll we asked you the following question:
What do you think of the Superman costume being used for “Supergirl” Season 2?
Seems fans are split over the Superman costume design for Season 2 of “Supergirl”. 28% don’t like it, but 26% do like it. Another 23% think it’s rather average. I guess we’ll get a better impression of it once we see Tyler Hoechlin in action as the Man of Steel when “Supergirl” Season 2 begins in October.

It’s mainly the odd placement of the cape attachment that’s hurting it IMO. Everything else is basically alright at least within the confines of trunks being currently verboten and gobs of visible seams being apparently mandatory as far as live-action superhero costumes go. (Though using that to give him subtle gauntlets rather than actual ones is an interesting touch.) Kinda wish the belt had a round buckle but at least they didn’t do the visually redundant thing of just repeating the shield when he’s already got it on his chest. At first I was a little put off by the… Read more »
I’ve read a few comments on here saying the trunks are forbidden by mandate across the board. Is this really true I wonder? Or is it just a case of each individual set of creators for the movies, Supergirl and Rebirth Superman making the decision for themselves and either going with the trend or taking advantage of the fact that they are “allowed” to not use the trunks because other official versions of the character aren’t using them at the moment. That is to say some of these costume designers such as for TV Supergirl’s Superman don’t want to use… Read more »
The “S” in Hoechlin’s suit is not the Donner movie one. I is the official design with a (very) little change: The one John Byrne used in his Man of Steel minieries. Supergirl also uses the official emblem but the change is at the end of the “S” instead of the beggining.
Actually both the shape and serifs are dead on for the Donner version. Though Byrne did also use a slanted top serif (wear the “official” one is always straight)but his was wider than the one on the Donner \S/. Both the Donner and the Supergirl version nix the rounded part off the bottom serif.
Here are the versions I mentioned.
