I voted no. But not a complete NOT. I liked what they did in Smallville every time Clark’s (Superman) future was hinted some way. They didn’t play the theme but made something that reminded it. I think they should do it. Not use the Williams’ theme but do something that reminds it. Leave the theme for Superman’s own shows. Unless they make a Superman series placed in the same Supergirl universe. Then it would be logic to use Williams’ composition.

Agreed. Leave well enough alone. It was used in SR. But SR had direct parallels with STM so it mostly worked. Using it will make it awkward and I for one don’t want that theme getting miss handled.

For this poll, I would have voted ‘unsure/undecided.’ The Williams theme is iconic enough to have been used for three different Superman projects (the Donner films, Smallville, and Superman Returns). Plus, the Supergirl TV score has a Williams feel to it.

However, while it would be a nice surprise if it were used for Tyler Hoechlin’s Superman, I really don’t see it happening.

^Although, I have to admit when I first saw the shirt-rip photos, the first thing that popped into my head was “The Big Rescue” from the STM soundtrack.

IMO what John Williams was able to do kind of transcended being just a theme for a movie because he really managed to capture the spirit of the character in music form almost as if he was a composer who’d just come up with a symphony about a flying hero. Put it up against footage of Superman from other eras and it still works. So in my view while maybe they don’t necessarily have to use it, I don’t think they should be afraid or ashamed of using it either. Bond’s theme has lasted multiple eras and actors, I’d say… Read more »

No way. They should make a new theme unique to this version of Superman.

Cool. I picked Unsure/Undecided. I love the original theme in the original movies and loved how it was used in Supergirl the Movie, Ruby Sears Superman, Smallville and Superman Returns but when Blake Neely composed a theme for Supergirl I immediately felt that any reference of Superman’s original theme was going to be disregarded. I know John William’s theme is a beautiful and iconic theme but we moved on from that with the Kevin Kiner’s work in Superboy, Shirley Walker’s in the animated series and of course Hans Zimmer in Man of Steel. Its not like Blake Neely copied Danny… Read more »
